SAP on Google Cloud enables ShareChat to handle 3x more financial transactions

In the fifth episode of Cloudversations, Subram Natarajan, Director-Customer Engineering, Google Cloud India, in conversation with Manohar Charan, Chief Financial Officer ShareChat, discusses the social media platform’s meteoric rise.

Conceived on the IIT-Kanpur campus in 2015, ShareChat has gone from strength to strength over the last few years of its growth journey. Between 2017 and 2020, ShareChat enhanced its artificial intelligence and machine learning muscle and then launched a short video platform called Moj. “Early 2022 we acquired our largest local competitor MX TakaTak and today I'm very proud to say that between the three platforms -- ShareChat, Moj, and TakaTak -- we are the largest content destination in the country,” says Manohar.

Since 2019, when their association with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) began, the journey has been fantastic, says Manohar. “When we launched Moj our traffic had almost overnight jumped 4X and it was the GCP team that was completely committed to making sure that our servers scale as our traffic scaled.”

SAP has helped the ShareChat CFO attain complete control on tax items, accounting aspects and risk items. “It used to take me at least three weeks after a month-close to decide on any corrective actions on P&L. That means that I would have lost an entire month. With SAP on Google Cloud I'm able to make decisions within seven days of closing a month. That gives me 15 days of extra time,” says Manohar.

The partnership has helped raise the efficiency of the accounts payables team. “With the same size of team six months from today I'm very confident that we will be able to handle two and a half to 3X more volumes of invoices,” adds Manohar.
